The 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott formalized government-to-government relationships with 22 signatory tribal nations and, among other outcomes, affirmed the right of tribal nations to practice their traditional cultures and to fish, hunt and gather in their usual and accustomed places, among other reserved rights.
