Embracing an Ecosystem of Complexity

North Sound ACH staff created this poster for the Othering & Belonging Conference, held in Oakland, CA from April 11-13, 2024. The poster visualizes a community ecosystem, drawing primarily on the research of Suzanne Simard, where forests have a large “Mother tree” surrounded by other trees of various sizes, with an underground view of roots connecting with each other and the mycelial network. This metaphor describes the growing network in the North Sound region above and below ground, showing the connections between organizational relationships, such as drawing down funds from large federal sources (photosynthesis), distributing funds (nutrient exchange), shared learning (mycelial signaling), and fostering collaboration (root-level connectivity). The poster represents a snapshot in time, as the work is not done – our partners are learning along with us as we work to solve the problem of sustainable funding.
